What does the photographic work "Thread" reflect?

The photographic work "THREAD" reflects the relationship of interaction and interdependence between a daughter and her mother. It begins with the initial stage of idealization, which includes identification and attachment to the parental-maternal model until its deconstruction during adolescence. There is an invisible thread between mother and child that takes various forms and continuously unites the parental relationship, playing a decisive role in its developmental course.

How did the idea for the work come about?

The photo series arose from my inner need to explore and capture through images the emotional coexistence between mother and daughter. I focused on the conceptual framework contained in the continuous nurturing of the maternal relationship and its transformation over time, as well as on the range of emotions that emerge or are suppressed throughout the interaction process. Hope and dreams, expectations and beliefs combine subtly and intricately with difficulties and frustrations, fears and repressed feelings, creating a unique mix of pleasant and challenging situations through which we pass and shape ourselves.

Photography is the art of static movement. How do you perceive its silence?

I love photography because, although it appears silent, it actually is not. It has the unique ability, through its silence, to speak and express what even humans cannot put into words. One only needs the will and the eye to listen to it. Through its static depiction, it can whisper, imply, shout, or even ramble. Some photographs say the most essential things simply, while others, with many elements, suggest very little.

I find the power of photography magical because a simple, silent image can affect and connect with the viewer in many ways through feelings of identification, emotion, disturbance, and often reflection. The same image can speak differently to each viewer precisely because there is a different reason for each connection. I find this magnificent and for that reason, I personally prefer not to have captions or explanations with photographs. Photography is better when it speaks to us through its silence.

How did your personal journey with photography begin?

It began, like every journey does, with the desire for knowledge and expression. I have always been interested in art in general. I read, watched, kept informed, and at some point felt the need to create my own images. I specifically took up photography because, as I mentioned earlier, I was fascinated by the fact that it allows you to express your inner needs through silence.

Do you believe that only our personal journey and identity are reflected in the frame? Or is it something more complex?

I believe that when we talk about personal journey and identity, we are already talking about something extremely complex. Who we are, how we got here, what stages of development we have gone through, who influenced us to become who we are or how much we allowed others to shape us and in what way?

Who I am, what I consciously or unconsciously feel, what I desire or fear, how I visualize it each time, the techniques and tools I use, the stimuli I allow to influence me each time, all these are controlled by me, but at the same time I am controlled by them.

A person is complex within their simple structure. Therefore, the process of creating an image has a complex basis.

In an artistic career, there are "pauses." Have you experienced this? If yes, what role and significance would you give to their dynamic influence?

I consider that just as sleep is important for human biological activity, so is a pause (meaning temporary and not permanent interruption) important for an artistic career. It is naturally impossible to create continuously without stopping. Rest, relaxation, and withdrawal are necessary resources for artistic and spiritual regrouping, reorganization, and, of course, restarting.

It is useful for every artist after a phase of creativity to step back from their work because they need to listen carefully and mature internally. Later on, having received new external stimuli and with a renewed perspective, they continue their creative path. Otherwise, I believe there is a risk of recycling the same work. Of course, if that happens, I don’t think it is unnecessary as it is part of our internal need for repetition. In any case, in my opinion, a pause is an essential part of the creative process and by no means an obstacle.
