iFocus Photo Gallery is pleased to present Anthi Kollia's solo photography exhibition, "Flowing Bodies," which will beon view from May 17 to May 23, 2025.

In her latest photographic work, Anthi Kollia explores the encounter between the human body and water, in a visual journey that borders on poetry. The human form loses its identity and individuality, transforming within the aquatic flow—a flow that acts not merely as a backdrop, but as a co-creator of meaning and image.

As exhibition curator Dora Lavazou notes, the photographer uses light, motion, and fluidity to construct a universe that is both real and suggestive. The images do not describe; they evoke. They do not depict; they recall. The underwater landscape becomes a space of liberation, reflection, and a return to the primordial essence of existence.
The exhibition "Flowing Bodies" invites the viewer into a multi-sensory and existential experience.
What does the body reveal when freed from its weight?
How is our relationship with ourselves and others redefined when we literally and symbolically submerge into water?

“Bodies in Flow” is the outcome of an extended encounter with the sea -over three months of staying close to the water during the past summer. This time allowed me to experience swimming through all my senses and to delve into its many facets, both physically and emotionally.
At the same time, through my photographic lens, I captured underwater scenes of swimmers in moments of relaxation, play, exercise, and quiet social connection. My aim was to observe the interaction between the human body and the aquatic environment—to capture gestures and subtle expressions, often silent and imperceptible. The relationship between humans and water is deep and multifaceted, one that begins even before birth, in the amniotic sac. Our bodies are made up largely of water, a fact reflected in the sense of familiarity we feel when immersed in it. Immersion is not just a physical process, but an experience that engages all the senses: touch feels pressure and fluidity, hearing becomes isolated and hushed, vision sees light refracted and reshaped.
Beneath the surface, movement slows down. The body is released from gravity. Communication becomes silent and expressive. Swimmers resemble figures suspended in a fluid space, stripped of their everyday identities. Water is not merely a natural element, but a lived environment—one that shapes human experience, influencing the psyche, emotion, and even our perception of time.
Through this photographic series, I sought to explore how water embraces, transforms, and reveals a different, almost dreamlike, version of the human body. To become myself part of a transitional space, where the body floats between materiality and its dissolution. And where the physical and sensory experience of immersion becomes an act of freedom, calm, and reconnection with our primal nature.
